TUSKEGEE, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women's tennis team defeated Tuskegee University 8-1 in its second match of the 2016 season.
Freshman Allie Whitley recorded the match-clinching victory for the Falcons (2-0) with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Taylor Wilson of Tuskegee in the No. 6 singles' match. Once the Falcons clinched the victory, the remaining matches were played in a 8-game pro set format.
Freshman Alina Munteanu topped Reicia North of Tuskegee 8-4 in the No. 1 singles' match. Freshman Emily Beatty defeated the Golden Tigers' Monica Thomas 8-3 in No. 2 singles' action.
Freshman Rayne Sinclair defeated Tuskegee's Kim Bowen 8-2 in the No. 3 singles' match. Freshman Lauren Pero topped Kayla Triche of Tuskegee 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 5 singles' match.
Senior Allison Howell and freshman Alice Copland combined to defeat North and Thomas 9-8 in the No. 1 doubles' match with a 7-4 win in the tie-breaker.
Munteanu and Sinclair edged Bowen and Navilla Paul of Tuskegee 8-6 in the No. 2 doubles' match. Freshmen Julia Berg and Emily Beatty topped Triche and Wilson 8-0 in the No. 3 doubles' match.
The Falcons will return to action Sunday, Feb. 7 in their home opener against Stillman College. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
