ALBANY, Ga. – The University of Montevallo women's tennis team swept host Albany State University 9-0 in a non-conference match March 2.
The Falcons (6-2) won five singles' matches and two doubles' matches and took the remaining two matches by default.
Freshman Alina Munteanu defeated Vivian Moultrie of Albany State 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 1 singles' match. Freshman Emily Beatty topped the Rams' Kiara Thompson 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 2 singles' match.
Freshman Julia Berg defeated Samantha Heard of Albany State 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 3 singles' match. Freshman Rayne Sinclair topped the Rams' Torian Foston 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 4 singles' match.
Freshman Lauren Pero defeated Keona Livatt of Albany State 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 5 singles' match. Freshman Allie Whitley won the No. 6 singles' match by default.
Munteanu and Sinclair defeated Moultrie and Heard 8-3 in the No. 1 doubles' match. Freshman Alice Copland and Whitley topped Livatt and Thompson 8-0 in the No. 2 doubles' match.
Freshman Melanie Whitley and Pero won the No. 3 doubles' match by default.
The Falcons return to action Saturday, March 5 with a Peach Belt Conference match at home against nationally-ranked Francis Marion University, which is ranked No. 41 nationally in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) NCAA Division II poll. First serve is set for 10 a.m.
