MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women's tennis team defeated Tuskegee University 8-1 to finish unbeaten in non-conference play April 5.
The Falcons (12-7) won five of the six singles' matches and all three doubles' matches against the Golden Tigers, who fell to 13-5 overall.
Freshman Alina Munteanu defeated Reicia North of Tuskegee 6-1, 6-3 in the No. 1 singles' match to improve to 18-5 overall in singles' matches this season.
Freshman Emily Beatty topped the Golden Tigers' Monica Thomas 4-6, 6-0, 10-4 in the No. 2 singles' match. Freshman Rayne Sinclair edged Kim Bowen of Tuskegee with a 7-2 win in the tiebreaker in the second set to take the No. 4 singles' match 6-1, 7-6.
Freshman Lauren Pero swept the Golden Tigers' Lauren Pero 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 5 singles' match. Freshman Allison Whitley topped Taylor Wilson of Tuskegee 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 6 singles' match.
Sinclair and Berg defeated North and Thomas 8-6 in the No. 1 doubles' match.
Beatty and senior Allison Howell topped the Golden Tigers' Navilla Paul and Kim Bowen 8-1 in the No. 2 doubles' match, while Munteanu and fellow freshman Allison Whitley swept Wilson and Kayla Triche of Tuskegee 8-0 in the No. 3 doubles' match.
The Falcons will return to action Saturday, April 9 with a Peach Belt Conference match on the road at Young Harris College. First serve is set for 12 p.m. Eastern/11 a.m. Central.
