MONTEVALLO, Ala. – University of Montevallo freshman Alina Munteanu became the first member of the women's tennis program to earn a national ranking by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

Munteanu, a Bacau, Romania native, is ranked No. 49 in the final ITA NCAA Division II singles' rankings for the 2015-16 season. Munteanu also moved up to No. 11 in the final ITA NCAA Division II Southeast Region singles' rankings.

Munteanu, who was named the Peach Belt Conference Freshman of the Week in the final week of the regular season, set the single-season program record for singles' wins with 20 victories in No. 1 singles' action this season. Munteanu also recorded 14 victories in doubles' action during the year.

Munteanu helped guide the Falcons to a program-record 13 wins during the 2016 season.
