MONTEVALLO, Ala. – For the first time in the history of the University of Montevallo women's tennis program, two Falcons are regionally ranked in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) NCAA Division II South Region rankings.
Junior Alina Munteanu, who became the Falcons' first nationally-ranked singles' player a year ago, is ranked No. 7 in the ITA NCAA Division II South Region rankings. Munteanu is ranked No. 7 in the South Region rankings after wrapping up fall competition with a 9-1 record in singles' action.
Freshman Bhargavi Kalaga enters the ITA NCAA Division II South Region rankings for the first time after opening her collegiate career with a 6-1 record in singles' action during fall competition.
"This is a great recognition for the work that Alina and Bhargavi have put in this fall season," said Montevallo women's tennis coach Adam Albertsen. "Entering arguably the strongest region in Division II tennis brings out a lot of new competition and our team has responded very well. We look forward to getting back on the courts in the Spring season and competing at a very high level."
The Falcons will return to action Friday, Feb. 2 in its spring opener against Tuskegee University at Lagoon Park in Montgomery, Alabama.
