Falcons Welcome Valdosta State for Sea of Purple Match

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo men's and women's tennis teams return to the Montevallo Tennis Court Complex on Tuesday afternoon to host Valdosta State in their annual Sea of Purple match. First serve is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.

Both Falcon teams are coming off a pair of wins over the weekend. The UM women posted back-to-back 7-0 sweeps over UT Southern and Spring Hill on Friday and Saturday. The Montevallo men defeated NAIA No. 23 UT Southern, 4-3, before earning a 6-1 victory over Spring Hill the following afternoon.

The Valdosta State women enter Tuesday with a 5-3 record (2-0 GSC) and are ranked No. 35 in the ITA rankings. The Blazers have won four straight matches and are coming off a 7-0 victory over Georgia College on Friday. Ivana Castillo Hurtado leads the VSU women and is ranked No. 70 nationally in singles.

On the men's side, Valdosta State holds a 3-4 overall record and is 1-1 in Gulf South Conference play. No. 58 Philipp Bosse leads the Blazers with a 4-1 record in singles competition. In doubles, Jan Thiessen and Jerome Iaconi pace the team with a 2-0 mark at the No. 3 position. Julien Doitteau also enters the match with a 3-1 singles record and is ranked No. 64 in the latest ITA singles rankings.
