MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women's tennis team swept Spring Hill College 9-0, extending its program-best start to 8-0 on the season.
The Falcons will now prepare for the start of Peach Belt Conference play Saturday, February 25 with a match on the road at Clayton State University in Morrow, Georgia. First serve is set for 2 p.m. Eastern/1 p.m. Central in the conference opener.
Sophomore Alina Munteanu knocked off Maria Hastings of Spring Hill 6-1, 6-2 in No. 1 singles' play. Sophomore Emily Beatty swept the Badgers' Madison Artigue 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 2 singles' match.
Sophomore Julia Berg defeated Rebecca Pearlman of Spring Hill 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 3 singles' match. Freshman Merel Van Zutphen topped the Badgers' Brenda Carrada 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 4 singles' match.
Sophomore Rayne Sinclair claimed the No. 5 singles' match with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Liz Peters of Spring Hill. Freshman Amanda Gautreaux swept the Badgers' Alison Gmelich 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 6 singles' match.
Sophomore Alice Copland and Sinclair defeated Hastings and Artigue 8-4 in the No. 1 doubles' match. Berg and Gautreaux topped Pearlman and Carrada 8-1 in the No. 2 doubles' match.
Sophomore Allie Whitley and Beatty swept Peters and Gmelich 8-0 in the No. 3 doubles' match.
