MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women's tennis team defeated Birmingham-Southern College 8-1 in a non-conference match March 10 at the Montevallo Tennis Complex.
The Falcons improved to 11-2 on the season with the victory.
Sophomore Alina Munteanu claimed a 7-5, 6-1 victory in the No. 1 singles' match against the Panthers' Carlee Petro, who is ranked No. 42 nationally in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) NCAA Division III singles' rankings.
Sophomore Emily Beatty knocked off Isabella Wisener of Birmingham-Southern 6-0, 6-2 in the No. 2 singles' match. Sophomore Julia Berg defeated the Panthers' MaKenzie Courtney 6-1, 6-3 in the No. 3 singles' match.
Sophomore Rayne Sinclair topped Emily Whitlock of Birmingham-Southern 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 4 singles' match. Freshman Amanda Gautreaux swept the Panthers' Virginia Hammond 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 5 singles' match.
Sophomore Lauren Pero swept Lexie Dillard of Birmingham-Southern 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 6 singles' match.
Sophomore Alice Copland and Sinclair fell to Petro and Whitlock 9-7 in the No. 1 doubles' match. Munteanu and Beatty defeated Wisener and Courtney 8-3 in the No. 2 doubles' match.
Berg and Gautreaux topped the Panthers' Bonnie Lioce and Dillard 8-4 in the No. 3 doubles' match.
The Falcons will return to action Saturday, March 18 on the road at Augusta University in a Peach Belt Conference contest.
