TUSKEGEE, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women's tennis team defeated Tuskegee for a second time this season following a 8-1 win on the road in a non-conference match March 27.
Nine different Falcons contributed in the victory over the Golden Tigers as Montevallo (14-3) set a new school record for wins in a single season with its 14th win of the season. The Falcons surpassed their 13 victories from a season ago.
Sophomore Alina Munteanu, who is ranked No. 12 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) NCAA Division II Southeast Region singles' rankings, defeated Reicia North of Tuskegee 6-1, 6-4 in the No. 1 singles' match.
Sophomore Emily Beatty knocked off the Golden Tigers' Monica Thomas 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 2 singles' match. Freshman Merel Van Zutphen topped Taylor Wilson of Tuskegee 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 3 singles' match.
Sophomore Lauren Pero defeated Jocelyn Horton of Tuskegee 6-1, 6-4 in the No. 5 singles' match. Freshman Amanda Gautreaux swept the Golden Tigers' Kori Quillin 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 6 singles' match.
Munteanu and Van Zutphen defeated North and Thomas 8-2 in the No. 1 doubles' match.
Sophomores Alice Copland and Rayne Sinclair swept Kayla Triche and Wilson of Tuskegee 8-0 in the No. 2 doubles' match. Sophomores Allie Whitley and Julia Berg topped the Golden Tigers' Jaiere Harlow and Horton 8-6 in the No. 3 doubles' match.
The Falcons will return to action Friday, March 31 with a Peach Belt Conference match on the road at Young Harris College. First serve is set for 12 p.m.
