LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The University of Montevallo women's tennis team fell to nationally-ranked University of West Alabama 5-1 in its final non-conference match of the season April 13.
The Falcons fell to 16-8 overall following the setback against the Tigers, who are ranked No. 22 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) NCAA Division II rankings.
Sophomore
Alina Munteanu and freshman Merel Van Zutphen teamed up to defeat Liliana Araucz and Evelyn Moreno 9-7 in the No. 2 doubles' match in the Falcons' lone victory against the Tigers.
Munteanu, who is ranked No. 12 in the latest ITA NCAA Division II Southeast Region singles' rankings, split the first two sets against Amina Mukhametshina of West Alabama 2-6, 5-4 in an unfinished No. 1 singles' match.
Sophomore
Emily Beatty won her first set against Teona Tatishvili 7-5 and was trailing 4-2 in the second set of the unfinished No. 2 singles' match. Van Zutphen had split the first two sets against Moreno 0-6, 6-2 in an unfinished No. 3 singes' match.
The Falcons will return to action Saturday, April 15 in their final match of the regular season against Peach Belt Conference foe USC Aiken. A win over the Pacers would clinch a spot in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament for the second time in program history.
