Falcons fall to nationally-ranked North Georgia 7-2

DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The University of Montevallo fell to nationally-ranked University of North Georgia 7-2 in a Peach Belt Conference match April 2.

The Falcons fell to 15-5 on the season and 3-5 in Peach Belt Conference play following the setback against the Nighthawks, who are ranked No. 36 nationally in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) NCAA Division II Southeast Region rankings.

Sophomore Alina Munteanu battled Kathrin Waidner of North Georgia in the No. 1 singles' match before falling 2-6, 6-1, 6-3 to the Nighthawks' top player, who is ranked No. 33 nationally in the latest ITA NCAA Division II singles' rankings. Munteanu remains ranked No. 12 in the ITA NCAA Division II Southeast Region singles' rankings.

Freshman Amanda Gautreaux and sophomore Lauren Pero picked up the Falcons' lone victories in the match.

Gautreaux defeated the Nighthawks' Lexa Loden 6-7 (7-9), 6-2, 10-3 in the No. 5 singles' match. Pero topped Emma Etalahti of North Georgia 6-2, 6-3 in the No. 6 singles' match.

The Falcons will return to action Friday, April 7 with a Peach Belt Conference match against Georgia Southwestern at the Montevallo Tennis Complex. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
