MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women's tennis team fell to nationally-ranked Georgia College 5-4 in a Peach Belt Conference match April 8.
The Falcons fell to 16-6 overall and 4-6 in Peach Belt Conference play following the setback against the Bobcats, who are ranked No. 31 nationally in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) NCAA Division II rankings and No. 4 in the Southeast Region.
Sophomores Alina Munteanu and Emily Beatty both earned their 20th win of the season in singles' action against Georgia College.
Munteanu, who is ranked No. 12 in the ITA NCAA Division II Southeast Region singles' rankings, defeated the Bobcats' Macy Polk 6-0, 6-3 in the No. 1 singles' match. Beatty topped Jena Kelly of Georgia College 6-3, 7-5 in the No. 2 singles' match.
Sophomore Julia Berg picked up the Falcons' third win in singles' play with a 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 win over the Bobcats' Hannah Serdinia in the No. 4 singles' match.
Freshman Merel Van Zutphen and Munteanu edged Polk and Serdinia 9-8 in the No. 2 doubles' match with a 8-6 win in the tiebreaker.
The Falcons will return to action Sunday, April 9 with another Peach Belt Conference match against Columbus State University. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
