AMERICUS, Ga. – The University of Montevallo women's tennis team swept host Georgia Southwestern 9-0 in non-conference play Feb. 28.
The Falcons improved to 8-1 on the season with the win over their former Peach Belt Conference foe.
Junior Alina Munteanu picked up her team-leading 15th singles' win with her 6-1, 6-0 sweep of the Hurricanes' Celia del Castillo in the No. 1 singles' match.
Junior Emily Beatty swept Maria Taboado of Georgia Southwestern 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 2 singles' match. Freshman Maria Garcia defeated the Hurricanes' Charli Allen 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 3 singles' match.
Freshman Dorotea Hanzek topped Kendall Crew of Georgia Southwestern 6-1, 6-3 in the No. 4 singles' match. Sophomore Amanda Gautreaux swept the Hurricanes' Anneliese Leahy 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 5 singles' match.
Junior Rayne Sinclair defeated Ashley Denby 8-1 of Georgia Southwestern in the No. 6 singles' match.
Freshman Bhargavi Kalaga and Beatty edged Castillo and Taboado 9-8 (7-5) in the No. 1 doubles' match as they picked up their team-leading 10th doubles' match.
Munteanu and Garcia topped Crew and Allen 8-2 in the No. 2 doubles' match. Junior Allie Whitley and Gautreaux won the No. 3 doubles' match by default.
The Falcons return to action Saturday, March 3 with a home Gulf South Conference match against the University of West Georgia. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
