AUGUSTA, Ga. – The University of Montevallo women's tennis team defeated Augusta University 8-1 in a non-conference match March 18.

The Falcons improved to 14-1 overall following the victory.

"Augusta is a good team with a lot of fight," said Montevallo women's tennis coach Adam Albertsen. "I am really proud of how the ladies fought in doubles and carried the momentum into singles."

Junior Alina Munteanu swept Eva Miralles-Miro of Augusta 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 1 singles' match. Junior Emily Beatty topped the Jaguars' Ana Faria 5-7, 6-4, 10-4 in the No. 2 singles' match.

Freshman Bhargavi Kalaga fell to Merye Gobernate of Augusta 6-3, 6-3 in the No. 3 singles' match. Freshman Maria Garcia swept the Jaguars' Alejandro Arranz 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 4 singles' match.

Freshman Dorotea Hanzek defeated Marie Cantenot of Augusta 6-4, 6-1 in the No. 5 singles' match. Sophomore Amanda Gautreaux topped the Jaguars' Amelia Pinoargote 6-4, 6-4 in the No. 6 singles' match.

Beatty and Kalaga took down Maria Alice Viera and Miralles-Miro of Augusta 8-4 in the No. 1 doubles' match. Munteanu and Garcia defeated Gobernate and Faria 8-3 in the No. 2 doubles' match.

Hanzek and Gautreaux topped Arranz and Pinoargote 9-7 in the No. 3 doubles' match.

The Falcons will return to action Thursday, March 22 in a home Gulf South Conference match against the University of West Alabama.
