CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The University of Montevallo women's tennis team swept host Lee University 9-0 in a Gulf South Conference match April 11.

The Falcons, who are ranked No. 26 nationally in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) NCAA Division II rankings and remain No. 7 in the NCAA Division II South Region rankings, improved their record to 20-1 overall and 10-1 in Gulf South Conference play in the record-breaking season.

Junior Alina Munteanu swept Marta Garcia-Nieto of Lee 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 1 singles' match. Junior Emily Beatty topped the Flames' Carley Sickinger 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 2 singles' match.

Freshman Bhargavi Kalaga defeated Joanna Grzegrzolka of Lee 6-3, 6-0 in the No. 3 singles' match. Freshman Maria Garcia took down the Flames' Laura Beth Hardesty 6-0, 6-3 in the No. 4 singles' match.

Sophomore Amanda Gautreaux claimed the No. 5 singles' match with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Nicole Shennett of Lee. Junior Allie Whitley won the No. 6 singles' match by default after the Flames failed to field a singles' player in the match.

Freshman Dorotea Hanzek and Kalaga defeated Garcia-Nieto and Sickinger 8-1 in the No. 1 doubles' match. Munteanu and Garcia swept Grzegrzolka and Hardesty 8-0 in the No. 2 doubles' match.

Beatty and Gautreaux claimed the No. 3 doubles' match by default after the Flames failed to field a doubles' team in the match.

The Falcons are scheduled to return to action Saturday, April 14 in their final home Gulf South Conference match in the regular season. First serve is set for 11 a.m.
