Box Score MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women's tennis team wrapped up the regular season April 13 with a 5-2 setback against Mississippi College in a battle between nationally-ranked teams.
The Falcons, who are ranked No. 26 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) NCAA Division II national rankings, fell to 20-2 overall and 10-2 in Gulf South Conference play after the loss to the Choctaws, who are ranked No. 33 in the latest national poll.
"This was a really tough loss," said Montevallo women's tennis coach Adam Albertsen. "I thought we played well. We're going to learn from it and turn our attention toward the GSC Tournament next week."
Freshman Maria Garcia claimed the Falcons' lone win in singles' play after defeating AnneMarie Kimball of Mississippi College 6-4, 6-3 in the No. 4 singles' match.
Junior Alina Munteanu and Garcia picked up the Falcons' lone win in doubles' competition with a 8-5 victory over the Choctaws' Aneta Golawska and Tori Roberts in the No. 2 doubles' match.
The Falcons will return to action Thursday, April 19 in the opening round of the Gulf South Conference Tournament at Lagoon Park in Montgomery, Alabama. The match against an opponent to be determined is set for 1:30 p.m.
