Box Score MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The nationally-ranked University of Montevallo women's tennis team defeated Valdosta State University 6-3 in the quarterfinal round of the Gulf South Conference Tournament on April 19 at the O'Connor Tennis Center.
The Falcons, who are ranked No. 33 nationally in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) NCAA Division II singles' rankings, improved to 21-2 on the season following the victory.
Freshman Bhargavi Kalaga closed out the win with a 6-2, 6-2 sweep of Daniella Barta in the No. 3 singles' match.
Freshman Maria Garcia topped Hera Bjork 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 4 singles' match. Junior Lauren Pero took down Amelia Cornwall 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 6 singles' match.
Junior Alina Munteanu and freshman Maria Garcia defeated Daniella Barta 8-6 in the No. 2 doubles' match.
Junior Emily Beatty and sophomore Amanda Gautreaux topped Hera Bork and Taylor Vinge 8-5 in the No. 3 doubles' match.
The No. 3 seed Falcons will face No. 2 seed Mississippi College in the semifinal round Friday, April 20 at Lagoon Park in Montgomery.
