Box Score ROME, Ga. – The University of Montevallo women's tennis team swept host Shorter University 7-0 in a Gulf South Conference match March 16.
The Falcons improved to 5-2 on the season and 2-1 in conference play with the victory.
Sophomore Maria Garcia defeated Melinda Chrun of Shorter 6-4, 6-4 in the No. 1 singles' match. Senior Emily Beatty topped the Hawks' Anastasia Jovicic 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 2 singles' match.
Freshman Anne-Christine Leu took down Anaelle Marchand of Shorter 6-0, 6-4 in the No. 3 singles' match. Junior Amanda Gautreaux defeated the Hawks' Alana Mulkey 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 4 singles' match.
Senior Rayne Sinclair edged Victoria Overby of Shorter 6-0, 7-5 in the No. 5 singles' match. Senior Lauren Pero swept the Hawks' Taylor Harper 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 6 singles' match.
The Falcons claimed the doubles' point after sweeping all three doubles' matches.
Sophomore Dorotea Hanzek and Garcia topped Chrun and Jovicic 6-1 in the No. 1 doubles' match, while Beatty and Leu defeated Mulkey and Marchand 6-2 in the No. 2 doubles' match.
Freshman Whitney Hamilton and Pero took down Overby and Harper 6-2 in the No. 3 doubles' match.
The Falcons will return to action Sunday, March 17 with a match on the road at Georgia Gwinnett College in Lawrenceville, Georgia.
