Box Score CARROLLTON, Ga. – The University of Montevallo women's tennis team swept host University of West Georgia 7-0 in a Gulf South Conference match March 6.
The Falcons, who received votes in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) NCAA Division II women's tennis rankings, improved to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play with the victory.
Sophomore
Maria Garcia defeated Timia Commodore of West Georgia 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 1 singles' match. Senior
Emily Beatty topped the Wolves' Sofia Soltis 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 2 singles' match.
Sophomore
Dorotea Hanzek downed Shelby Brown of West Georgia 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 3 singles' match. Junior
Amanda Gautreaux swept the Wolves' Meg Cummings 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 4 singles' match.
Freshman
Whitney Hamilton took down Bailey McCammon of West Georgia in a 7-6, 3-6 contest before winning the tiebreaker in the No. 5 singles' match. Senior
Rayne Sinclair topped the Wolves' Jamie Bryant 7-5, 6-1 in the No. 6 singles' match.
The Falcons captured the doubles' point after winning all three matches.
Garcia and Hanzek defeated Commodore and Soltis 6-1 in the No. 1 doubles' match.
Freshman
Anne-Christine Leu and Beatty took down Brown and Cummings 6-3 in the No. 2 doubles' match, while Gautreaux and Sinclair topped the Wolves' Jamie Bryant and McCammon 6-3 in the No. 3 doubles' match.
The Falcons will return to action Sunday on the road at Georgia Gwinnett College in Lawrenceville, Georgia.
