Box Score MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women's tennis team fell to the University of West Florida 4-0 in the Gulf South Conference Tournament quarterfinals May 2 at Lagoon Park.
The Falcons dropped the doubles' point against the Argonauts, who are ranked No. 13 nationally in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) NCAA Division II rankings.
Sophomores Maria Garcia and Dorotea Hanzek dropped the No. 1 doubles' match against Berta Bonardi and Diana Vlad of West Florida, who are ranked No. 12 in the latest ITA NCAA Division II doubles' matches, 6-1. Senior Emily Beatty and freshman Anne-Christine Leu fell to the Argonauts' Karolina Silwanowicz and Gabriela Arujo in the No. 2 doubles' match.
The third doubles' match between junior Amanda Gautreaux and senior Rayne Sinclair against the Argonauts' Jennifer Rink and Heather Mixon was tied 5-5 before it was called once the doubles' point was earned by West Florida.
Beatty dropped the No. 2 singles' match against Silwanowicz, who is ranked No. 53 nationally in the ITA NCAA Division II singles' rankings, 6-1, 6-1. Junior Amanda Gautreaux fell to Arujo 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 4 singles' match.
Leu fell to Rink 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 3 singles' match.
The remaining singles' matches went unfinished.
Montevallo, which finished the season with a 8-12 overall record, advanced to the postseason for the third time in four years under graduating seniors Emily Beatty, Lauren Pero, Rayne Sinclair and Julia Berg.
