MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The University of Montevallo volleyball team is slated to kick off the new season on Thursday as they will host the Talladega College Tornadoes, at 6:30PM in Trustmark Arena. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the team will be playing during the spring instead of the typical fall season slate.
The Montevallo volleyball team is set for a 12-match regular season, February through March. The Falcon's will play four non-conference opponents before eight GSC matches to close out the spring slate.
"We are grateful for a supportive athletic department. Thank you, to everyone who helped us get to this point. It took several items to line up to make tonight happen. Win or lose, this is a victory! The team has worked very hard to get to this point and it is time to see how we stack up. Our team is excited to be playing in Trustmark Arena," remarked head coach
Katie O'Brien.
The Falcon's concluded the 2019 season with a 19-14 overall record and went 12-5 in conference play. In addition to six newcomers, Montevallo returns seven from last years squad.
Savannah Roys, who was named Second Team All-GSC, will return as the top setter for the Falcon's after leading the team in 2019 with 1174 in total assists.
Evelina Teran will be leading the UM attack this year, returning with the second most kills (328) during the 2019 season.
Coach O'Brien announced the addition of six to the 2020 class as
Allie Dishman (freshman, MB),
Macy Martin (freshman, OH),
Casey Hendrixson (freshman, DS/L),
Isabelle Fuell (transfer, S),
Jillian Morgan (freshman, MB), and Meghan Schram (freshman, DS/L) came to Montevallo.
"We look forward to playing more matches this season, while also taking it one week, if not one day at a time," continued O'Brien.
