Falcons Set Four School Records at KMS Invitational

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Montevallo men's track and field team set three program records on Sunday, Jan. 22 while the women's track and field team broke one school record. 
 
The men's day was highlighted by a record time of 1:32.89 set by the Montevallo 4x200-meter relay team of Matthew Gray, J'Brelin Cook, Amari Lewis, and Patrick Sherrill in their first-place run. On the field side, Braxton Sanford set a new Montevallo record in the pole vault after the sophomore cleared an event-winning height of 4.60-meters. Julian Fore broke the previous Montevallo 600-meter record with a first-place time of 1:21.42 on Sunday afternoon. Graduate student Joe Leventry took home the gold in two events during the meet with top times in the 800-meter run (1:56.58) and the Mile (4:13.38). Caleb Kariuki posted the final event win of the day for the Falcons with a triple jump mark of 14.35-meters.
 
In a second-place finish, Hannah Smith, Kylie Carroll, Audriana Blakely, and Destiny Betton set a new school record in the 4x200-meter relay with a time of 1:47.72. Freshman Leah Dendy won her second consecutive pole-vault event after clearing a height of 3.35-meters. Sarah Turner and Courtney Keeler each had a strong meet in the distance events. Turner posted a second-place finish in the 800-meter (2:23.83) and a fifth-place finish in the Mile (5:27.70) while Keeler notched fifth in the 800 (2:27.37) and third in the Mile (5:25.72). 
 
A quartet of Falcons competed in the men's heptathlon during the Samford Multi on Jan. 19-20. David Vick was Montevallo's top performer in the event with a total score of 4,171 points. Micah Flores (3,870), Brayden Marlowe (3,870), and Nate Boleware (3,280) also competed in the Samford Multi. 
 
Kiffin Brun was the lone Falcon to compete in the Samford Multi Pentathlon. The sophomore posted a final score of 2,066 points over the five-event competition. 
 
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
  • Hannah Smith qualified for the finals in the women's 60-meter dash and posted a seventh-place time of 8.00 seconds. 
  • Brayden Marlowe took fifth place in the men's 60-meter hurdles after the freshman posted a time of 8.90 seconds. 
  • J'Brelin Cook posted a pair top-five finishes with a fifth-place time of 22.80 seconds in the 200-meter dash before recorded a second-place time of 50.04 seconds in the 400-meter. 
  • Ana Watters and Morgan Remley added top-five finishes to their careers with a fourth-place time of 11:36.06 and a fifth-place mark of 11:38.39, respectively.
  • Joseph Pitard earned a podium finish in the 3,000-meter race with a third-place time of 8:40.44.
  • Skylar Suggitt took third in the pole vault after clearing a mark of 3.20-meters. 
  • Gaines Myrick earned a third-place finish in the weight throw with a heave of 14.31-meters. 
  • Nyla Shipman posted a second-place mark in the weight throw with a toss of 16.32-meters. 
 
UP NEXT: The Falcons will return to the Birmingham Crossplex on Sunday, February 5 to compete in the final meet before the Gulf South Conference Championships.
