BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - For the 11th time since 2011, the Montevallo baseball team lent a hand at the annual Lymphoma and Leukemia Society 'Light the Night' event in Railroad Park.
This annual community service event has been a mainstay of the Falcons' program since Rose's arrival in 2011. "It's great for our guys to get some perspective on helping others," said Rose. "We even have some alumni that come back and join us each year."
All members of the team and the coaching staff arrived hours before the event began and stayed well after to assist LLS. The team helps in all aspects of the event, from setting up, assisting participants, directing the walk, breaking down and even participating in the walk as supporters.
"We greatly appreciate the help," said LLS Campaign and Development Manager Tori Duncan. "It truly gives us peace of mind knowing that we have found a reliable group of volunteers for our Birmingham event. Volunteers are the lifeblood of our mission and critical to the success of Light the Night."
"Our guys enjoy coming out here, helping, and being a part of it," added Rose. "It's something we started 11 years ago and it has become part of our program. This is a big part of our year."
About LLS and Light the Night: At Light The Night, it is our aim to bring light to the darkness of cancer through research and cures. Light The Night is a series of fundraising campaigns benefiting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) funding of research to find blood cancer cures. We bring hope instead of despair by working to ensure access to treatments for all blood cancer patients. We bring communities together to celebrate those who are fighting the disease and to honor those we have lost.
