BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – After the final day of the 2023 Gulf South Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, Montevallo men's track and field took home fourth-place while the women's team earned a sixth-place finish.

In the men's championship, Montevallo was led by
Joshua Pruitt and
Caleb Kariuki who took first and second in the triple jump with marks of 14.19 and 14.14-meters, respectively. On the track, graduate
Joe Leventry ran the 3,000-meter in 8:20.40 for a fifth-place finish. Freshman
Matthew Gray earned a top-five finish in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.93 seconds.
Julian Fore took fifth place in the 800-meter race with a mark of 1:54.27. Over at the weight throw,
Matthew Bradbury and
Gaines Myrick finished four and five with tosses of 15.54 and 15.51-meters, respectively.
On the women's side, freshman
Sarah Turner and junior
Amber Fisher finished one and two in their heat with times of 2:22.07 and 2:23.46, respectively. Fisher went on to post a top-ten time in the mile with a mark of 5:16.06 (8
th). Junior Nyla Shipman took home sixth in the weight throw with a heave of 16.18-meters.
"We had a good two days of the conference meet," said Head Coach
Tommy Barksdale. "We saw a few school records, several personal bests, and several season bests. We ended the season on a high note, but we still have some work to do."
NOTABLE PREFORMANCES
- Micah Flores took a first-place finish in the heptathlon 1,000-meter race with a time of 2:51.50.
- Natalie Warner and Courtney Keeler posted top-15 times in the 3,000-meter with marks of 10:37.98 (13th) and 10.39.46 (14th), respectively.
- Zauren Burton earned a top-10 finish in the high jump with a mark of 1.50-meters (8th).
- Gabe Gamble took fourth place in the triple jump with a leap of 13.49-meters.
- In the mile, sophomore Bill Archer finished the race in 4:19.13 for an eighth-place finish.
