BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Montevallo men's and women's track and field teams closed the opening weekend of indoor season with a solid day at the UAB Vulcan Invite.
On the women's side, two Falcons earned podium finishes in Leah Dendy and Lauren Byrne. Dendy earned the highest place finish of the day for Montevallo, placing second in the Pole Vault with a height of 3.53m. Dendy finished ahead of four NCAA DI opponents. Byrne placed third in the High Jump with a distance of 1.58m. Saskia Rhind finished right behind Byrne in the High Jump, placing fourth.
Ava Taylor led the way for the Falcon women on the track, placing fifth in the 3000m with a time of 10:43.37, while Sable George placed 12th in the One Mile with a time of 5:38.18. Saskia Rhind led the way for the throwers, placing eighth in the Shot Put with a throw of 10.31m.
On the men's side, the 4x400m Relay team of Amari Lewis, Jeremiah Fails, Dwight Bellamy, and Drew Cheslock captured a podium finish, placing second with a time of 3:20.42.
Caleb Newell captured the highest individual place finish for the men, placing fourth in the Shot Put with a throw of 14.47m. Newell also placed sixth in the Weight Throw, as he set a new personal record with a throw of 16.18m.
Jeremiah Fails led the way for the jumps, placing fifth in the Long Jump (6.84m), while Corey Perkins placed eighth in the High Jump (1.86m). Jamell Beatty led the way for the sprints, placing seventh in the 60m with a time of 7.05.
Montevallo returns to action next week for the Samford Multi, Invite and Open (Jan. 15-17).
