MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo men's and women's track and field teams had an impressive showing at the Emory CrossPlex Showdown on Sunday, Jan. 14 at the Birmingham Crossplex.
In what was their second day of competition in a row, the Falcons men's and women's teams combined for three first-place finishes, nine podium finishes and one school record broken.
The Falcons got their first win of the day in the mile run from
Bill Archer. The Junior from Cartersville, Ga. ran a time of 4:20.71 in a field of 43 runners.
Alex Malone took first-place in the long jump with a career-best jump of 6.96-meters. The Decatur, Alabama native also competed in the 300-meter with a time of 39.35.
Graduate Student
Caleb Kariuki had a triple jump winning distance of 14.11-meters. Kariuki was .03 of his personal best leap of 14.44-meters.
Joshua Pruitt and
Gabe Gamble rounded out the top-five with distances of 13.70-meters and 13.30-meters.
In the men's 4x200 meter relay, the tandem of
Walter Womack,
J'Brelin Cook,
Amari Lewis and
Ja'lon Benson turned in a school-record time of 1:31.18 which placed them in third for the event.
Senior
Zauren Burton had the top finish on the women's side in the high jump as she had a second-place jump of 1.55-meters.
Leah Dendy and
Skylar Suggitt both earned third in the pole vault as they both cleared heights of 3.40-meters. Dendy also competed in the 4x400 relay for the Falcons.
Montevallo will be back in action on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 19-Jan. 20 at the Samford Multi hosted by Samford University.
