BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Gulf South Conference has announced their 2024 postseason GSC awards with
Nikol Antova being named GSC Freshman of the Year and Second Team All-GSC.
The Falcons outside hitter was named Freshman of the Year for the fantastic season she put together including 319 kills, 195 digs, 33 total blocks and 17 service aces. Antova proved to be one of the top hitters in the Gulf South with 16 matches with double-digit kills, six matches where she had a double-double and four matches with 20 or more kills. She is one of three players in the Gulf South to have a match with 25 kills.
The Vidin, Bulgaria native was recognized by the conference multiple times this season including three GSC Freshman of the Week awards and a GSC Player of the Week award on Oct. 1. On Sept. 28 against Lee, Antova notched a career-high of 25 kills in the win. She added 10 digs and two aces. She had huge games against Lander and No. 22 Augusta as she totaled 21 kills and eight digs against the Bearcats and 17 kills and 11 digs in the Falcons first ranked victory since 2003. Antova recorded a career-high in digs with 16 against Trevecca Nazarene on Sept. 27.
To finish the season, Antova was seventh in kills, third in kills per set, ninth in points and tied for fifth in points per set.
