BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – A pair of Falcon right-handers have earned Gulf South Conference weekly awards, Tuesday, as announced by the league office.
Senior starter
Logan Samuels and freshman reliever
Zach Wyatt each picked up weekly awards this week after helping Montevallo baseball sweep Mississippi College on the road.
Samuels has been named the GSC Pitcher of the Week for the first time this season after he tossed a complete game shutout in game two of the series against MC. The Winfield, Alabama native threw 7.0 scoreless innings, struck out seven batters, gave up just three hits and allowed zero walks. MC's baserunners reached scoring position just twice under Samuels' watch.
Wyatt, a freshman from Pelham, Alabama, was named the Freshman of the Week for his first award of the year. In game three against the Choctaws, Wyatt picked up his first career save as he threw 3.0 innings with three strikeouts, no walks and two runs allowed. The right-handed reliever came on for the Falcons in the seventh inning with a 9-6 lead and struck out two in the ninth to earn his first career save.
The Falcons return to action on the road against Miles College on Mar. 20, at 12 p.m.
