MONTEVALLO, Ala. –
Molly Pendley drove in all four Falcon runs on Sunday, lifting Montevallo to a 4-3 win over No. 24 West Alabama. The win secured the first series sweep for UM over West Alabama in program history.
A trio of Falcons saw action in the circle, combining to only allow one earned run in the contest.
Mya Young earned her third start of the year and picked up a pair of strikeouts in two innings.
Rachel Whiddon pitched the next two innings, before
Berkley Mooney closed the game. Mooney was credited with the win, as she allowed no runs, no hits, and no free passes in three innings pitched. The only batter that got on base against Mooney, reached on an error.
The Tigers struck first with a run in the first inning to take the early, 1-0, advantage.
The Falcons responded in the bottom half of the inning, as
Molly Pendley's sac-fly brought in
Riley Tyree and
Bentlee Stiner, putting the Falcons ahead, 2-1.
The Tigers responded with runs in the second and third innings to regain the lead, 3-2.
Montevallo looked to score in the fifth, as
Riley Tyree hit a leadoff single. After a pair out outs, Pendley came in clutch again with a two-out RBI double up the middle to score Tyree, tying the game at three runs apiece.
Berkley Mooney sat down six of the next seven batters, as Montevallo looked to earn its third consecutive walk-off win in the bottom of the seventh.
Bentlee Stiner started things off with a single and stole second in the next at-bat. Stiner advanced to third on an
Ariana Pinder sacrifice groundout, moving the winning run one plate away. Pendley provided for the Falcons once again, hitting one up the middle to score Stiner and secure the 4-3 win over the Tigers, and the series sweep.
