MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo softball team is set for a three-game series on the road against Valdosta State this weekend.
So Far This Season…
Montevallo holds an overall record of 15-15 and a 7-8 mark in GSC play. The Falcons opened the season, splitting a pair of games against ranked opponents at the Gulf Shores Invitational, defeating No. 24 Oklahoma Christian (3-2) and falling to No. 9 Rogers State. Montevallo posted a 3-2 record at the Chillout, as the Falcons earned wins over Kentucky Wesleyan (4-0), Shorter (4-3), and Young Harris (9-7), before falling to Georgia Southwestern and Lincoln Memorial. The Falcons opened conference play with a 2-1 series victory at West Florida. The next week the Falcons split a midweek doubleheader with Spring Hill, before dropping the weekend series with Mississippi College (2-1). Montevallo then split its midweek doubleheader with Columbus State, before dropping three games to No. 12 Trevecca Nazarene on the weekend. The Falcons followed that up dropping a pair of midweek games at Georgia Southwestern, before falling in the weekend series to Alabama Huntsville (2-1).
Last weekend, the Falcons earned its first GSC sweep of the year, taking all three games in walk-off fashion from No. 24 West Alabama. Montevallo followed that up with a doubleheader sweep over Miles on Tuesday. The Falcons earned both victories in run-rule fashion, defeating the Bears 11-3 and 8-0.
Molly Pendley led the way with four hits, six RBIs, and two home runs in the doubleheader.
On the season, Pendley leads the team in runs (16), home runs (four), and RBIs (16).
Ariana Pinder posts the best batting average (.383) and on-base percentage (.433), while
Riley Tyree holds a team leading 27 hits.
Taylor Lloyd has seen the most time in the circle, pitching 91.2 innings total this season. The junior has recorded seven wins and 68 strikeouts, while posting a 2.29 ERA.
Berkley Mooney has posted a 2.63 ERA in 32 innings and
Rachel Whiddon has posted a 4.34 ERA in 29 innings. Mooney has the best opponent batting average in the Gulf South Conference (.162).

Valdosta State enters the weekend with a 14-11 overall record and a 10-4 mark in GSC play. The Blazers opened the season with a 2-3 mark at the Gulf Shores Invitational. Valdosta State followed that up with a doubleheader sweep over Florida Southern, before dropping consecutive doubleheaders against No. 10 Tampa and Saint Leo. The Blazers opened GSC play, splitting a pair at Union before dropping two of three against No. 12 Trevecca Nazarene. The Blazers have been hot lately, winning three consecutive series over Alabama Huntsville (2-1), No. 22 West Alabama (3-0), and Delta State (3-0).
On the season, Aniston Gano leads Valdosta State and the entire GSC in batting average (.467). Gano also holds team leads in hits (35), RBIs (25), on-base percentage (.583), and slugging percentage (.787), while Carly Bogart holds a team leading-eight home runs.
As a team, the Blazers lead the GSC in home runs with 35 on the season.
Claire Maulding leads the way in the circle, pitching 97 innings total this season. Maulding holds an 11-6 record, while posting a 2.74 ERA. Madison Lumpp (2-1) posts a 4.86 ERA in 31.2 innings, while Savannah Barfield (1-3) posts an 8.11 ERA in 29.1 innings.

Since 2018, these two squads have met 15 times with the Blazers holding a 12-3 advantage in the series. The Blazers took two of three from the Falcons in the season series last year.
