MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo softball team makes the short trip to Gardendale, Ala., to face off against Miles College in a doubleheader on Wednesday.
So Far This Season…
Montevallo holds an overall record of 15-18 and a 7-11 mark in GSC play.
The Falcons opened the season, splitting a pair of games against ranked opponents at the Gulf Shores Invitational, defeating No. 24 Oklahoma Christian (3-2) and falling to No. 9 Rogers State. Montevallo posted a 3-2 record at the Chillout, as the Falcons earned wins over Kentucky Wesleyan (4-0), Shorter (4-3), and Young Harris (9-7), before falling to Georgia Southwestern and Lincoln Memorial. The Falcons opened conference play with a 2-1 series victory at West Florida. The next week the Falcons split a midweek doubleheader with Spring Hill, before dropping the weekend series with Mississippi College (2-1). Montevallo then split its midweek doubleheader with Columbus State, before dropping three games to No. 12 Trevecca Nazarene on the weekend. The Falcons followed that up dropping a pair of midweek games at Georgia Southwestern, before falling in the weekend series to Alabama Huntsville (2-1). Montevallo went on to sweep No. 24 West Alabama at home, winning all three games in walk-off fashion.
Last week, the Falcons took two games from Miles at home on Tuesday, before dropping three games to Valdosta State on the road.
Molly Pendley had a solid week, totaling six hits, eight RBIs, three home runs, and scoring six runs in the five games. Pendley now leads the team with five home runs this year.
On the season,
Ariana Pinder posts the highest batting average (.366) and on-base percentage (.418).
Riley Tyree has a team leading-30 hits, while
Becca Benton posts the highest slugging percentage (.553). Benton and Pendley share a team leading-18 RBI.
Taylor Lloyd has seen the most time in the circle, pitching 100.2 innings total. The junior has recorded seven wins and 78 strikeouts, while posting a 2.64 ERA.
Berkley Mooney has posted a 3.20 ERA in 35.0 innings and
Rachel Whiddon has posted a 3.86 ERA in 32.2 innings.
Scouting Miles:
Miles holds an overall record of 8-20 and a 8-5 mark in SIAC play.
The Bears opened the season with an 0-5 record in the Mardi Gras Tournament. Miles also dropped non-conference contests to Mississippi College (DH), Georgia Southwestern (DH), No. 11 North Georgia (DH), and Union (DH).
The Bears picked up its first win against SIAC foe-Spring Hill, but ultimately dropped the series 2-1. Miles followed that up going 4-3 at the SIAC Crossover, defeating Savannah State, Allen, Benedict, and Clark Atlanta, while falling to Fort Valley State, Albany State, and Edward Waters. Last week Miles dropped a pair of games to Montevallo, before sweeping LeMoyne-Owen in a three-game series.
Series History Against Miles…
These two squads have met ten times with the Falcons holding a perfect 10-0 advantage in the series. The Falcons secured a pair of run rule wins over Miles last week, defeating the Bears 11-3 and 8-0.
