CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The Montevallo softball team swept its Saturday doubleheader to secure a 2-1 series victory at Lee. The Falcons opened the day with a 10-8 win in eight innings, before taking a 6-5 win in the rubber match.
GAME ONE
Five Falcons saw action in the circle, combining to rack up eight strikeouts, with four of them coming from
Berkley Mooney who earned the start.
Mya Young earned her third win of the season, pitching one inning, while
Taylor Lloyd recorded the final out to pick up her second save this year.
The Falcons struck first, as
Bentlee Stiner opened the game with a leadoff home run to put the Falcons ahead, 1-0, in the top of the first.
The Lady Flames responded with a run of its own in the bottom half of the first to tie the game, 1-1.
Montevallo went back to work in the second inning, as
Kiley Christopher started things off with a one-out single. Stiner earned her second RBI of the day, hitting a triple to bring in Christopher, putting the Falcons back in front, 2-1.
Riley Tyree followed that up with an RBI-double to score Stiner, while Pendley singled to bring in Tyree extending the lead to 4-1.
Montevallo looked to continue pushing offensively, as a Christopher single, followed by free passes for
Emma Hawkins and Stiner loaded the bases. Tyree cleared the bases, with a three-RBI double to extend the lead to 7-1 in the top of the third inning.
Lee cut into the Montevallo lead, plating a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth to trim the deficit to, 7-3.
The Lady Flames added four runs in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game, 7-7, forcing extra innings.
After being held scoreless for four consecutive innings, Montevallo looked to respond in the top of the eighth.
Riley Tyree got things started with a double down the left field line and
Becca Benton followed that up with a huge two-run home run to put the Falcons back in front, 9-7. The Falcons were not done yet, as
Molly Pendley followed that up with a home run of her own, putting Montevallo ahead, 10-7.
The Lady Flames responded with a run in the bottom half of the eighth, but
Taylor Lloyd entered the circle and secured the final out to preserve the 10-8 victory for the Falcons.

GAME TWO
The Falcons struck first once again in the second game of the day, as an RBI-single from
Ariana Pinder brought in
Riley Tyree to put the Falcons ahead, 1-0.
Montevallo added to its lead in the top of the second inning, as
Becca Benton hit a three-run home run, putting the Falcons ahead, 4-0.
The Lady Flames got on the board in the bottom of the third inning, plating three runs to cut deficit to one run, 4-3.
Lee looked to add another run in the bottom of the fourth, but
Emma Hawkins would deliver a ball to
Kiley Christopher who tagged out what would be the tying run at the plate, keeping the Falcons in front.
Montevallo got back on the board in the top of the sixth, as back-to-back RBI doubles from Stiner and Tyree extended the lead to 6-3.
The Lady Flames responded with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning, cutting the lead back to one run, 6-5, heading to the seventh inning.
The Lady Flames put two on with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, but
Rachel Whiddon induced a popout to end the game.
