Box Score MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Montevallo softball team opened the weekend with a strong showing in Memphis, defeating Christian Brothers 9-1 on Friday.
Taylor Lloyd earned the start in the circle and captured her 11
th win of the season. The junior allowed one run, five hits and racked up three strikeouts in six innings pitched.
Mya Young pitched the final inning, sitting down all three batters she faced.
The Falcons struck first with a pair of runs in the top of the first.
Bentlee Stiner opened the game with a leadoff walk, and
Molly Pendley brought her home with an RBI-double to put Montevallo ahead 1-0. Pendley advanced to third base on the throw and stole home in the next at-bat to extend the lead to 2-0.
Pendley provided once again in the top of the third inning, hitting a solo home run to put Montevallo ahead 3-0.
Christian Brothers got on the board in the bottom of the fourth, plating a run to trim the Montevallo lead to 3-1.
Montevallo responded, as
Bentlee Stiner hit a solo home run in the top of the fifth inning to extend the lead back to three runs, 4-1.
Taylor Lloyd held the Lady Bucs scoreless through the next two innings and the Falcons looked to add insurance in the top of the seventh. Stiner opened the inning with her third walk of the day and
Riley Tyree followed that up with Montevallo's third home run of the day, extending the lead to 6-1. The Falcons were not done yet as
Becca Benton and
Kiley Christopher added RBI-singles to extend the lead to 9-1.
Mya Young entered the circle in the bottom of the seventh and sat down all three batters she faced, preserving the 9-1 victory for the Falcons in the series opener.
