Softball Closes 2025 Home Slate Against Union

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo softball team closes the 2025 home slate with a three-game series against Union (Apr. 17-18). A trio of seniors will be honored after Thursday's game including Ellie Derrick, Molly Pendley, and Rachel Whiddon.

So Far This Season…
Montevallo holds an overall record of 26-20 and a 15-12 mark in GSC play.

The Falcons opened the season, splitting a pair of games against ranked opponents at the Gulf Shores Invitational, defeating No. 24 Oklahoma Christian (3-2) and falling to No. 9 Rogers State. Montevallo posted a 3-2 record at the Chillout, as the Falcons earned wins over Kentucky Wesleyan (4-0), Shorter (4-3), and Young Harris (9-7), before falling to Georgia Southwestern and Lincoln Memorial. The Falcons opened conference play with a 2-1 series victory at West Florida. The next week the Falcons split a midweek doubleheader with Spring Hill, before dropping the weekend series with Mississippi College (2-1). Montevallo then split its midweek doubleheader with Columbus State, before dropping three games to No. 12 Trevecca Nazarene on the weekend. The Falcons followed that up dropping a pair of midweek games at Georgia Southwestern, before falling in the weekend series to Alabama Huntsville (2-1). Montevallo went on to win five in a row, sweeping No. 24 West Alabama at home, winning all three games in walk-off fashion, before notching a pair of run rule victories over Miles. The Falcons dropped its next series to Valdosta State, before rebounding with a doubleheader sweep at Miles, followed by a 2-1 series victory at Lee. Montevallo won its second consecutive conference series the next weekend, sweeping Delta State at home.

Last week, the Falcons split a doubleheader at Spring Hill, before taking all three games at Christian Brothers in its weekend series. Taylor Lloyd was solid all week, only allowing one run in 17 innings pitched. Lloyd was two outs away from pitching a perfect game in game three against Christian Brothers.

Lloyd is 12-9 on the season and posts a 2.27 ERA in 142 innings. The junior has recorded 112 strikeouts this year and surpassed 300 in her career last week. Rachel Whiddon has recorded six wins, while posting a 3.43 ERA in 51 innings pitched. Berkley Mooney has recorded three wins, while posting a 2.96 ERA in 47.1 innings.

Bentlee Stiner posts the highest batting average (.338), on-base percentage (.435), and slugging percentage (.585). Riley Tyree holds team leads in hits (48), doubles (11), and triples (five), while Molly Pendley has a team leading-eight home runs and Becca Benton holds a team leading-33 RBIs.

Union holds an overall record of 8-35 and a 5-21 mark in GSC play.

The Lady Bulldogs have gone 3-14 non-conference play, which includes wins over Ouachita Baptist and Miles (twice). Union opened conference play splitting a doubleheader with Valdosta State, before dropping three consecutive series to Delta State, Mississippi College, and Lee. Union responded with its first series win, taking two of three games at then-No. 13 Trevecca Nazarene. The Lady Bulldogs have dropped its last 12 conference games, falling to West Florida, West Alabama, Alabama Huntsville, and No. 6 Auburn Montgomery.

On the season, Morgan Jennings leads the team in batting average (.360), hits (40), on-base percentage (.397), and slugging percentage (.395), while Courtney Marler has a team leading 17 RBIs.
Emily Claire Felder (2-11) has seen the most time in the circle, posting a 5.81 ERA in 88.1 innings pitched. Rylee Moore (2-10) posts a 6.30 ERA in 70 innings, while Riley Vaughn (2-8) holds a 6.66 ERA in 73 innings pitched.

Series History Against Union…
Since 2017, these two squads have met 20 times with Montevallo holding a 13-7 advantage in the overall series. The Bulldogs earned a 2-1 series victory in Jackson last year.

First pitch at Softball Stadium at Orr Park is set for 5:00 p.m. CST on Thursday. Senior day festivities will be held after the game.
