Softball Heads South for Midweek Doubleheader at Spring Hill

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo softball team heads south to Mobile, Ala. for a midweek doubleheader at Spring Hill on Wednesday.

So Far This Season…
Montevallo holds an overall record of 22-19 and a 12-12 mark in GSC play.

The Falcons opened the season, splitting a pair of games against ranked opponents at the Gulf Shores Invitational, defeating No. 24 Oklahoma Christian (3-2) and falling to No. 9 Rogers State. Montevallo posted a 3-2 record at the Chillout, as the Falcons earned wins over Kentucky Wesleyan (4-0), Shorter (4-3), and Young Harris (9-7), before falling to Georgia Southwestern and Lincoln Memorial. The Falcons opened conference play with a 2-1 series victory at West Florida. The next week the Falcons split a midweek doubleheader with Spring Hill, before dropping the weekend series with Mississippi College (2-1). Montevallo then split its midweek doubleheader with Columbus State, before dropping three games to No. 12 Trevecca Nazarene on the weekend. The Falcons followed that up dropping a pair of midweek games at Georgia Southwestern, before falling in the weekend series to Alabama Huntsville (2-1). Montevallo went on to win five in a row, sweeping No. 24 West Alabama at home, winning all three games in walk-off fashion, before notching a pair of run rule victories over Miles. The Falcons dropped its next series to Valdosta State, before rebounding with a doubleheader sweep at Miles, followed by a 2-1 series victory at Lee.

The Falcons were strong this past weekend, taking all three games from Delta State at home. Taylor Lloyd led the way in the circle capturing two wins in a pair of complete game performances. Lloyd's efforts led her to being named GSC Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season and third time in her career.

On the season, Lloyd has recorded ten wins and 103 strikeouts, while posting a 2.52 ERA in 125 innings pitched. Rachel Whiddon has recorded four wins, posting a 3.50 ERA in 44 innings pitched, while Berkley Mooney has three wins and posts a 3.19 ERA in 41.2 innings pitched.

Ariana Pinder posts the highest batting average (.340), while Riley Tyree leads the team in hits (43), doubles (ten), and triples (five). Becca Benton has the highest slugging percentage (.627) and on-base percentage (.419), while sharing a team leading-seven home runs with Molly Pendley.

Spring Hill holds an overall record of 20-14 and a 16-3 mark in the SIAC.

The Badgers have posted a 4-11 record in non-conference action, which includes wins over then-No. 4 Lenoir-Rhyne, Montevallo, and the United States Sports Academy (twice). Spring Hill opened SIAC play with a 2-1 series victory over Miles, before going a perfect 7-0 in the SIAC Softball Crossover Tournament. The Badgers fell to Tuskegee in its next series, before earning consecutive sweeps over Lane and LeMoyne-Owen.

Rycca Hinton leads the Badgers in multiple categories including hits (35), runs (35), home runs (12), RBIs (30), stolen bases (24), on-base percentage (.470), and slugging percentage (.873), while Taylor Pittman holds the highest batting average (.375).

Emma Curry (7-4) posts a 2.53 ERA in 66.1 innings pitched, while Leighanna Turk (6-5) posts a 3.42 ERA in 69.2 innings pitched.

Series History Against Spring Hill…
Since 2015, these two squads have met 15 times with Montevallo holding a 9-6 advantage in the overall series. These teams split a doubleheader earlier this season in Montevallo.
