MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo men's and women's cross country teams hosted the annual Falcon Classic under the lights on Friday night, September 12. The meet featured a strong regional field, including Gulf South Conference rivals Auburn Montgomery, West Alabama, and Valdosta State.
In the women's 5K, which started at 7:30 p.m., the Falcons placed third overall with 93 points. Montevallo packed well up front, with all five scoring runners finishing in the top 40.
Sable George led the way with an 11th-place finish in 19:26.02. She was followed closely by
Ava Taylor in 13th with a time of 19:41.08 and
Morgan Remley in 14h at 19:41.47.
Kaitlynn Moore added a strong performance, crossing in 20th with a time of 20:10.33, while
Olivia Blackmon rounded out the top five for the Falcons in 39th place at 20:57.23.
In the men's 8K, which followed at 8:15 p.m., Montevallo earned a fourth-place finish with 95 points. The Falcons were paced by a dominant individual performance from
Zak Ferguson, who won the race with a time of 24:56.08, which was his first individual title of the season.
Jackson Howse followed as the second Falcon across the line in 12th place with a time of 26:06.47.
Ryan Cox continued his strong start to the year, placing 15th in 26:41.03.
Estan Wrights and
Joshua Howard rounded out the scoring five, finishing 30th (27:16.27) and 42nd (28:05.95).
The meet served as a significant step forward for both squads, with the women improving on their eighth-place finish at the season opener in Florence to a podium finish at home, while the men followed up a ninth place showing at the UNA Invitational with a top four result.
Montevallo will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 26, at the Bobcat Invitational in Milledgeville, GA.
