BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Jack Fitzgerald of the Montevallo baseball team was named the Gulf South Conference Player of the Week following a dominant stretch at the plate, the league office announced Tuesday.

Fitzgerald turned in a blistering .583 batting average over the past week, going 7-for-13 with two doubles, three home runs, and eight RBI. The Braintree, Massachusetts native delivered a 2-for-2 performance in a run-rule victory over Tuskegee, tallying a double, a home run, and four RBI to lead the Falcons' offensive surge.

He followed that effort with a 2-for-3 outing in the series opener at Mississippi College before launching home runs in each of the final two games of the weekend set.
On the season, Fitzgerald is batting .354 with five doubles, one triple, and a Gulf South Conference-leading six home runs to go along with 19 RBI.

Fitzgerald and the Falcons return to action this afternoon against No. 9 North Georgia. First pitch from Kermit A. Johnson Field at Bob Riesener Stadium is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
