MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo softball team returns to conference action this weekend, hosting a three-game series with Trevecca Nazarene (Feb. 27-28).
Montevallo enters the weekend with a 14-3 overall record and a 1-2 mark in Gulf South Conference play. After dropping its first GSC series of the season at Mississippi College, the Falcons earned a doubleheader sweep over Spring Hill on Tuesday. Becca Benton, Taylor Rogers, and Emma Faulk all hit the long ball and earned multiple RBIs against the Badgers, while Taylor Lloyd and Berkley Mooney picked up wins in the circle.
On the season, Benton has been solid at the plate and leads the GSC in home runs (nine) and RBIs (24), while holding a 1.021 slugging percentage (third in the GSC). Bentlee Stiner ranks fifth in the league in hits (24), while holding a team best .414 batting average. Makayla Peters leads the GSC in walks (13) and Rogers ranks fourth in stolen bases (13).
In the circle, Lloyd leads the GSC in innings pitched (63.2) and is tied for first in wins (nine). The senior ranks second in strikeouts (56) and sixth in ERA (1.87). Mooney and Kinsley Byrd have also picked up multiple wins in the circle with three and two, respectively.
Trevecca enters the weekend with a 4-3 overall record and an 0-3 mark in GSC play. Last time out, the Trojans dropped three games to Valdosta State to open conference play last weekend.
At the plate, Shay Hollingsworth ranks second in the GSC in batting average (.609) and on-base percentage, while Brianna Asmondy ranks second in slugging percentage (1.056). Hollingsworth leads the team in hits (14) and Asmondy leads the team in RBIs (nine) and home runs (three).
In the circle, Parker Herrin (2-2) posts a 3.73 ERA in 15 innings, while Bailey Goad (2-1) holds a 4.00 ERA and 26 strikeouts in 21 innings.
