MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo Track and Field is set to host the annual Falcon Classic and Multi at the UM Track and Field/Lacrosse Stadium on Friday and Saturday.
Montevallo opened outdoor season strong last weekend, with 20 individual podium finishes, while also capturing top-finishes in the relay events and setting multiple school records.
Three Falcons earned Gulf South Conference weekly awards on Wednesday after solid performances at the Victor Icebreaker Duals.
On the men's side, Christopher Johnson was named Field Athlete of the week after setting a school record and earning a provisional standard in the Discus with a throw of 54.32m. Johnson's 54.32m ranks first overall in DII. Jeremiah Fails was named Track Athlete of the Week, after performing well in four events. He set a school record in the 200m (21.31) and contributed to a school record in the 4x400m Relay (3:17.55). He now ranks first in the GSC in the 200m, 4x100m Relay, and 4x400m Relay, while ranking second in the 100m.
The Falcon men also saw podium finishes from Zane Weeks (Javelin), Eran Foye Jr. (High Jump), Jordon Harmon (Triple Jump), Marquis Trainer (Triple Jump), Corey Perkins (Long Jump), Alonzo Abara (Pole Vault), and Drew Cheslock (800m).
On the women's side Natania Nasieku was named Freshman of the Week, most notably, placing first in the Triple Jump with a distance of 11.29m which ranks first in the GSC and 16th in DII.
The Falcon women also saw podium finishes from Elizabeth Hayhurst (Javelin), Katie Wilkerson (Discus and Javelin), Kaitlyn Stephens (High Jump), Leah Dendy (Pole Vault), Farrah Hawkins (Triple Jump), Makala Sims (Javelin), Sarah Turner (1500m), and Ka'Mya Jackson (200m).
Action at the UM Track and Field/Lacrosse Stadium is set to start at 10 a.m. CST.
