MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The No. 25 Montevallo softball team hits the road for a three-game road series at (RV) West Alabama this weekend.
Montevallo enters the week with a 20-5 overall record and a 5-4 mark in Gulf South Conference play. The Falcons went 4-1 last week, sweeping a doubleheader over Georgia Southwestern and picking up a 2-1 series victory over then-No. 25 UAH.
Taylor Rogers led the way for the Falcons through the five games, posting a .632 batting average, .789 slugging percentage, and .632 on-base percentage. Rogers solid week ultimately led her to earning GSC Player and Freshman of the Week honors. Taylor Lloyd went 3-0 on the week, allowing only two runs in 20 innings pitched (0.70 ERA).
On the season, Rogers leads the team in batting average (.413 – ninth in GSC) and stolen bases (22 – second in GSC). Becca Benton leads the entire GSC in RBIs (32) and home runs (ten), while ranking third in slugging percentage (.861). Makayla Peters ranks second in the league in walks (15).
Lloyd leads the entire GSC in wins (13) and innings pitched (96.2), while ranking second in strikeouts (84) and ERA (1.59). Kinsley Byrd (4-2) posts a 2.98 ERA with 27 strikeouts in 40 innings, while Berkley Mooney (3-1) has a 2.19 ERA with 19 strikeouts in 22.1 innings.
West Alabama enters the week with a 17-4-1 overall record and an 8-1 mark in GSC play. The Tigers opened conference play by earning a series victory over then-No. 1 AUM. UWA is on a six-game winning streak, coming off back-to-back sweeps over Christian Brothers and Valdosta State.
Haley Shannon holds a team leading-.392 bating average, while Ann Marie Stanbridge leads the team in hits (29), and Kayla Morris leads the team in RBIs (20). Morris and Ella Watson share a team leading six home runs on the season. As a team, the Tigers have been strong in the circle, ranking second in the GSC in ERA (1.75). Eleanor De Block (10-4) holds a 1.60 ERA and 77 strikeouts in 65.2 innings, while Megan Roe (5-0) posts a 1.97 ERA and 23 strikeouts in 53.1 innings.
