MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo softball team returns to Gulf South Conference play this weekend, as the Falcons hit the road for a three-game series at No. 25 UAH.
Montevallo enters the week with an 18-4 overall record and a 3-3 mark in GSC play. After capturing a 2-1 series victory over Trevecca Nazarene last weekend, the Falcons picked up a pair of wins over Georgia Southwestern on Tuesday. Taylor Rogers had a team leading five hits and Makayla Peters had a team leading three RBIs in the two games. Taylor Lloyd and Kinsley Byrd picked up wins in the circle, while Berkley Mooney recorded a save.
As a team, Montevallo ranks second in the GSC in ERA (2.09), while ranking third in batting average (.325) and fielding percentage (.973). Becca Benton leads the entire GSC in RBIs (30) and home runs (nine), while Taylor Rogers leads the league in stolen bases (19) and Makayla Peters leads the conference in walks (15). Emma Hawkins and Bentlee Stiner share a team leading 27 hits, which ranks second in the GSC. Hawkins holds a team leading .403 batting average.
In the circle, Taylor Lloyd leads the way for Montevallo and is tied for a GSC-leading 11 wins. Lloyd ranks first in innings pitched (82.2), second in strikeouts (75), and third in ERA (1.69). Kinsley Byrd (4-2) holds a 3.05 ERA and 26 strikeouts in 36.2 innings, while Berkley Mooney (3-0) holds a 1.78 ERA and 17 strikeouts in 19.2 innings.
UAH enters the week with an 18-5 overall record and a 4-2 mark in GSC play. Last time out the Chargers dropped a road series at Valdosta State (2-1). UAH leads the league in batting average (.351) and fielding percentage (.981).
Alexas Douthitt leads the entire GSC in hits (28), while also holding a team leading 21 RBIs. Hannah Temple posts a team best .404 batting average. In the circle, Megan Shurtz (7-2) holds a 1.68 ERA (second in GSC) and 55 strikeouts in 50 innings. Katie Bracken (5-3) holds a 2.73 ERA and a GSC leading-77 strikeouts in 51.1 innings.
