MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo men's and women's tennis teams return to Gulf South Conference play on Friday morning, hosting No. 2 West Florida at 10:00 a.m. at the Tennis Court Complex.
Both Falcon squads enter the matchup with a 2-1 record after season-opening wins over Christian Brothers and Mobile, before falling to NAIA top-five Tennessee Wesleyan. The doubles tandem of Simon Luigs and Guilherme Gracioli earned a No. 47 ranking in the initial ITA spring doubles poll. The No. 2 men's doubles duo of Christian Bacher and Leonidas Lazarides carry a perfect 3-0 record into Friday.
The West Florida women, ranked No. 2 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, bring a 6-4 overall record and 0-1 mark in GSC play into Friday's contest. The Argos are coming off a perfect 3-0 showing at the GSC/Lone Star Crossover, highlighted by wins over No. 20 UT Tyler and No. 12 Midwestern State.
Individually, West Florida boasts two nationally ranked singles players in No. 4 Carlota Verdu and No. 46 Sandra Recuenco. The duo is also ranked No. 22 in doubles competition.
On the men's side, the Argos are also ranked No. 2 nationally and hold a 7-1 overall record, riding a four-match winning streak that includes three victories over top-25 opponents. Diego Duran leads the lineup at No. 3 in singles by the ITA, while Sebastian Rondon is ranked No. 5 and Mateo Martinez sits at No. 44. In doubles play, the tandem of Rondon and Duran is ranked No. 3 nationally, while Rafael Sabio and Goncalo Quintela check in at No. 22.
