MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The No. 20 Montevallo softball team returns to action this week with a three-game road series against Delta State (Apr. 2-3).
Montevallo enters the week with a 30-6 overall record and a 13-5 mark in Gulf South Conference play. The Falcons went 5-0 last week, earning a pair of victories over Columbus State and sweeping a three-game series over Lee.
Taylor Rogers led the way last week with nine hits, four RBIs, one home run, one triple, seven stolen bases, and six runs scored. Taylor Lloyd led the way in the circle with three complete game victories. The senior was dominant, allowing no earned runs in 21 innings of action. Rogers was named GSC Freshman of the Week, while Lloyd earned Pitcher of the Week honors. Rogers and Lloyd were also named on the NFCA Division II Player and Pitcher of the Year watchlist.
On the season, Rogers is tied for a GSC-leading 48 hits, while ranking third in batting average (.425). The freshman leads the league in stolen bases with 34 on the season. Becca Benton leads the GSC in home runs (12) and RBIs (37), while ranking third in slugging percentage (.788). Makayla Peters leads the team in walks (18 – sixth in GSC).
Lloyd has been solid all season in the circle, leading the GSC in wins (20), strikeouts (129), complete games (18), and innings pitched (145.2), while ranking third in ERA (1.54) and opponent batting average (.209). Kinsley Byrd (6-3) holds a 2.64 ERA and 33 strikeouts in 58.1 innings of action.
Delta State holds an overall record 12-23 and a 6-12 mark in GSC play. The Lady Statesmen dropped two of three games to UAH last weekend and most recently dropped its midweek doubleheader against Arkansas Tech on Tuesday.
Kyleigh Wheaton leads the way for Delta State at the plate with a .416 batting average, 42 hits, nine home runs, and 35 RBIs. Mary Teague holds a team leading 16 walks and Joryie McKnight has a team leading 14 stolen bases. Maeve Lavoy (6-6) has seen the most time in the circle, holding a 4.73 ERA and 67 strikeouts in 84.1 innings of work.
First pitch at University Field is set for 5:00 p.m. CST on Thursday.
