No. 22 Softball Set to Close Regular Season Against No. 14 West Florida

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The No. 22 Montevallo softball team is set to close the regular season this weekend, hosting No. 14 West Florida in a three-game series this weekend.

Saturday's game will serve as Senior Day where Montevallo will honor its nine seniors, Bentlee Stiner, Ariana Pinder, Becca Benton, Taylor Lloyd, Emma Faulk, Riley Tyree, Mya Young, Makayla Peters, and Riley Daniel.

Montevallo enters the weekend with a 39-11 overall record and a 20-10 mark in Gulf South Conference play. The Falcons captured its highest ranked win of the season last weekend, taking one of three from No. 7 AUM. After dropping the first two games, standout performances from Mya Young and Taylor Rogers led the Falcons to a 2-0 victory in the series finale.

Rogers leads the way at the plate for Montevallo and ranks top-ten in the GSC batting average (.378) and hits (59). Rogers ranks second in the league in stolen bases with 43 on the year. Bentlee Stiner has a team leading 44 RBIs (third in GSC), while Becca Benton holds a team leading 12 home runs (third in GSC).

The Montevallo pitching staff has been solid all year, currently holding the second-best ERA in the GSC (1.91). Taylor Lloyd leads the way in the circle, ranking third in the GSC in wins (23), ERA (1.66), and strikeouts (143). The senior has pitched 22 complete games and holds five shutouts. Kinsley Byrd has ten wins on the year and ranks top-ten in the league in ERA (2.56) and opponent batting average (.236).

West Florida enters the weekend with a 37-10 overall record and a 22-8 mark in GSC play. The Argos sit at the top of the conference offensively, holding a league best .327 batting average. Hannah Harper leads the way at the plate for UWF and ranks top-five in the GSC in batting average (.400) and hits (62), while holding a league best 53 RBIs.

Haley Guffey leads the way in the circle, tied for a league best 24 wins. Guffey (24-4) posts a 2.46 ERA and 80 strikeouts in 179.1 innings of action. Harper (11-4) posts a 4.73 ERA and 31 strikeouts in 91.2 innings of work.

First pitch on Friday at Softball Stadium at Orr Park is set for 3:00 p.m. CST.
