BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – University of Montevallo track and field entered 2023 with an impressive outing at the Emory Crossplex Showdown on Sunday, Jan. 15.
FINAL RESULTS
Men's track and field earned the top score at the meet with a total of 99.5 points. The day was highlighted by
Joshua Pruitt's top mark in the triple jump, clearing 14.26-meters. In the men's 5,000-meter,
Joseph Pitard and
Drew Roberts battled down he home stretch to take second and third at 15:14.53 and 15:15.18, respectively. The pair of Montevallo 4x400-meter relay teams took third and fourth in the final event of the day with times of 3:25.85 and 3:29.40, respectively.
Women's track and field took second in the meet after posting a final score of 110 points. The meet saw a pair of Falcons take home the gold with
Leah Dendy clearing 3.35-meters in the pole vault and
Zauren Burton winning the high jump with a leap of 1.52-meters. Sophomore sprinter
Hannah Smith ran he top time in the 60-meter dash preliminaries and second in the finals with two times of 7.90 seconds.
In the first meet of the new year, Montevallo earned 36 top-10 placements and 23 top-five finishes.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
- J'Brelin Cook ran a top-four time in the 400-meter dash with a fourth-place mark of 50.94 seconds.
- Freshman Brayden Marlowe took second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.59 seconds.
- Courtney Keeler and Sarah Turner finished two and three in the 800-meter run with times of 2:26.52 and 2:27.31, respectively.
- Hannah Smith added another podium finish to her day with a third-place time of 26.18 seconds in the 200-meter dash.
- Matthew Gray took home silver in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.98 seconds.
- Gaines Myrick and Matthew Bradbury added top-five finishes in the weight throw with Myrick's toss of 14.94-meters taking second and Bradbury's heave of 14.39-meters taking fifth.
- Nyla Shipman earned second in the weight throw with a toss of 15.25-meters while Shelby Sellers took fifth with a throw of 12.59-meters.
- Kylie Carroll took home second in the long jump after leaping 5.05-meters.
- Caleb Kariuki and Alex Malone finished two and three in the long jump with distances of 6.84 and 6061-meters, respectively.
