MONTEVALLO, Ala. – University of Montevallo men's basketball's Jaylen Curry and women's basketball's Lia Edwards have been named Montevallo Players of the Week presented by Jacks for the week of Jan. 13th.
JAYLEN CURRY (Men's Basketball)
It was a stellar week for Jaylen Curry in the Falcons dual against the UAH Chargers on Jan. 9 at Spragins Hall (Huntsville, Ala.) and the UWA Tigers on Jan. 11 at Pruitt Hall (Livingston, Ala.). Curry concluded his week averaging 21.5 ppg, 6.0 reb, 52% FG, and 41.7% 3pt. Curry had an excellent performance in the Falcons' battle against UAH on Jan. 9. Despite the team loss, Curry ended the game shooting 10-of-16 from the floor with 31 points, 4 rebounds, and two steals. In addition, Curry was an efficient 5-8 from three and 6-10 from the charity stripe. In transition, Curry had a steady performance against UWA on Jan. 11. He finished the game with 12 points and collected eight rebounds. Curry also shot 6-7 from the free throw line and distributed 3 assists to help the Falcons secure the road victory.
LIA EDWARDS (Women's Basketball)
What a competitive week it was for the Falcons and sophomore guard Lia Edwards in their battle against the UAH Chargers on Jan. 9 at Spragins Hall (Huntsville, Ala.) and the UWA Tigers on Jan. 11 at Pruitt Hall (Livingston, Ala.). Edwards concluded her week averaging 21 ppg, 50% FG, and 42.9% 3pt. Edwards was one of four Falcons players who ended the game in double digits against the UAH Chargers. She scored 16 points shooting 6-of-13 from FG. She also tallied three assists and shot 4-of-5 from the foul line. Moreover, Edwards dominated the UWA Tigers, dropping a career-high in points and shooting a perfect 3-of-3 from the three-point line. Edwards concluded the game with 26 points, one block, two steals, and an outstanding 9-of-11 from the charity stripe to help secure the Falcons' victory.
