MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The Montevallo Track and Field programs return to the Birmingham Crossplex this week for the Samford Multi, Invite, and Open (Jan. 15-17), as the Falcons compete in the second week of the indoor season.

Montevallo posted some impressive results to open the indoor campaign last week at the UAB Blazer and Vulcan Invites.

On the men's side,
Zak Ferguson and
Alonzo Abara captured first-place finishes, as Ferguson placed first in the 3000m with a time of 8:34.45, and Abara placed first in the Pole Vault with a height of 4.58m.
Caleb Newell led the way for the throwers, as he placed fourth in the Shot Put, with a throw of 14.47m.
Jeremiah Fails placed fifth in the Long Jump (6.84m), and
Jamell Beatty led the way for the sprints, placing seventh in the 60m with a time of 7.05. The men also captured a podium finish in the 4x400m Relay with
Amari Lewis,
Jeremiah Fails,
Dwight Bellamy, and
Drew Cheslock placing second with a time of 3:20.42.

On the women's side,
Leah Dendy and
Lauren Byrne landed spots on the podium, as Dendy placed second in the Pole Vault with a height of 3.53m, while Byrne placed third in the High Jump with a jump of 1.58m.
Cesleigh Martin led the way for the throwers, placing fourth in the Shot Put with a distance of 12.27m, and on the track,
Ava Taylor earned another top-five finish, placing fifth in the 3000m with a time of 10:43.37.
Action at the Birmingham Crossplex starts on Thursday, Jan. 15, with the Samford Multi.
