MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo Track and Field is set to compete at the 2026 Gulf South Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships on Feb. 19-20 at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Ala.
The Falcons enter the conference meet coming off a strong close to the indoor regular season at the UAB Green and Gold Invite and UAB Invite. Montevallo combined for multiple top five finishes and personal records across the two meets, building momentum heading into the championships.
Zak Ferguson highlighted the regular season finale with a first-place finish in the Men's 3000m at the UAB Green and Gold Invite, crossing the line in a personal record time of 8:23.94 while finishing ahead of 17 NCAA Division I competitors.
Drew Cheslock also delivered a strong performance, recording a personal record of 48.40 in the 400m, while
Corey Perkins added a fourth-place finish in the Long Jump (6.85m).
In the field events,
Alonzo Abara placed fourth in the Pole Vault at the UAB Invite with a height of 4.35m, while
Jack Pesarchick cleared 2.01m in the High Jump at the Green and Gold Invite.
Wyatt Pugh added a personal record in the Weight Throw (13.50m) to close out the regular season.
On the women's side,
Leah Dendy led the way at the UAB Invite with a fifth-place finish in the Pole Vault (3.57m).
Saskia Rhind secured a top 10 finish in the High Jump (1.55m), while
Sarah Turner posted strong performances in both the Mile (5:25.12) and 800m (2:24.21) over the two meets. The Falcons also saw eight personal records on the women's side at the UAB Invite alone, including marks from
Deserae Thomas,
Ka'Mya Jackson and
Natania Nasieku.
Montevallo will compete against Alabama-Huntsville, Christian Brothers, Lee (Tenn.), Mississippi College, Trevecca Nazarene and West Alabama in the two-day championship meet.
Action is set to begin on Thursday, Feb. 19, at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
