BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Montevallo track and field teams closed the weekend with a podium finish, and multiple top-ten finishes and personal records at the Samford Open.
Alonzo Abara earned the lone podium finish of the day, placing third in the Men's Pole Vault with a height of 4.41m. Zak Ferguson led the way on the track for the men, placing fifth in the Men's 1 Mile, recording a time of 4:13.74. Drew Cheslock set a personal record in the 400m, as he placed ninth in the 400m with a time of 48.66. Jordan Harmon also earned a top-ten finish, placing ninth in the Triple Jump with a jump of 13.42m. Ethan Fox led the way for the throwers, placing 16th in the Weight Throw with a distance of 14.66m.
Along with Cheslock, three other Falcon men earned personal records in Kendric Croft (60m Hurdles – 8.98), Estan Wrights (1 Mile – 4:41.10), and Zac Lamb (1 Mile – 4:52.05).
On the women's side, Ava Taylor earned the best place finish, placing fourth in the 5000m with a time of 18:46.32. Makayla Amador had a solid day, placing eighth in the Long Jump (5.23m) and 11th in the Triple Jump (10.83m). Leah Dendy captured a top-ten finish in the Pole Vault, placing eighth with a height of 3.26m, while Mari Sofie Een placed ninth in the High Jump with a jump of 1.50m.
A trio of Falcons on the women's side set personal records in Destiny Betton (200m – 27.29), Ka'Mya Jackson (400m – 59.02), and Alexis Valentine (3000m – 12:07.69).
Montevallo returns to action in two weeks for the UAB Green and Gold Invite and UAB Invite (Feb. 6-7).
