MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The No. 17 Montevallo softball team is set to host Christian Brothers in a three-game series this weekend (Apr. 10-11).
Montevallo enters the week with a 33-6 overall record and a 16-5 mark in Gulf South Conference play. The Falcons currently lead the conference at the plate and in the circle, ranking first in batting average (.320) and ERA (1.85).
The Falcons swept Delta State last weekend, outscoring the Lady Statemen 25-1 through three games. Becca Benton recorded a team-high seven hits on the weekend, while Taylor Rogers, Bentlee Stiner, Ariana Pinder, Riley Daniel all hit home runs. Taylor Lloyd and Kinsley Byrd picked up wins in the circle.
Rogers currently ranks second in the GSC in hits (52) and fifth in batting average (.423), while leading the league with 35 stolen bases which ranks ninth in DII. Rogers multi-home run weekend led her to being named GSC Freshman of the Week for the fourth time this season. Benton is tied for first in the GSC in home runs (12) and ranks second in RBIs (41). Makayla Peters holds a team leading 19 walks.
Lloyd leads the way in the circle with 21 wins which ranks first in the GSC and second in DII. Lloyd also leads the league in innings pitched (152.2 – fourth in DII), while ranking second in strikeouts (132) and ERA (1.51). Byrd has also been solid in the circle for Montevallo, ranking seventh in the GSC in ERA (2.39) and tenth in wins (eight).
Christian Brothers enters the weekend with a 7-27-1 overall record and a 2-19 mark in GSC play. The Buccaneers dropped three games to Mississippi College last weekend. Kate Candies leads the team in batting average (.324), while Katelyn Harmon leads the team in hits (36), home runs (seven), and RBIs (22). Emily Schooler has seen the most time in the circle, posting a 3.52 ERA and 104 strikeouts in 125.1 innings of action.
First pitch at Softball Stadium at Orr Park is set for 5:00 p.m. CST on Friday.
